I have one thing to say… YAY! Something is actually happening today. Thirteen minutes ago from the moment that I started writing this entry, President Barak Obama finished a speech on "a new chapter in American diplomacy" in the Middle East . This has been spawned out of the recent mission to find and eliminate Osama Bin Laden. He also referenced his efforts to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He then went on to scold the leaders in the Middle East for blaming the West and Israel for all of the problems that they have been experiencing. Next, he outlined his vision for the US ’s role in the Middle East . This plan entails the people and government of the United States to make decisions according to the principals of freedom, universal rights, free speech, assembly, and religion. Seriously…the whole thing is outlined on the USA Today website. There is a time table and everything. Then according to the NY Times web page, this speech was not just directed at the Middle East, but to Obama’s voting base here in the US and his rivals.
As I continue to surf the internet I see that our President, Barack Hussein Obama, decided to not only just give a speech but to pitch his personal idea of how he believes the Middle East should look. He has openly supported the 1967 Palestinian border. However, the CBS News article about Obama’s 9 minute spiel, “In a statement following Mr. Obama's remarks, Israeli Prime Minister rejected the President's endorsement, and said that a return to his country's 1967 borders would spell disaster for the Jewish state”. I completely agree. For me, it is really quite difficult for me to state my opinion; instead, I offer you a comment that was attached to the article itself. Serenitylost states, “Imagine Mr. Obama if a foreign leader made a speech to the world proclaiming they support that the United States be willing to give up the southwestern states to Mexico”. Let’s face it, if Obama really is the pacifist that he claims to be, I would imagine that he above all people would respect Confucius’s golden rule. I personally could not imagine this country going back to its Pre-Mexican War boarders. Someone cannot just ask a country to give up their land. I think this time our President went a little too far. He was trying to ride the high that the entire country had after he helped authorize the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden. He abused the good feelings that some of the people in this country had about him and he probably felt invincible. This time I really think he shot himself in the foot. He just lost a major portion of his voting base today. All I can think to say to him is, “Good luck in the future because you’re going to need it.” It looks like the Republicans now have more than a fighting chance in the 2012 presidential elections.
On the contrary (at least according to the New York Times), Obama was speaking out of an acknowledgement of reality. I for one would like to know the reality in which these people are members. Yes, it is true that there is unrest between the Israeli people and the Palestinians, but those problems are not going to go away overnight. I have also heard along the grapevine (yes, I’m talking about the New York Times website) that this speech was the beginning of an attempt “lure the Palestinians back to the negotiating table” by helping to create an international recognition of the Palestinian nation. I understand a desire for world peace, but something like that is just plain unrealistic (back to talking about reality again). It has to be understood that the entire world does not have the same mentality as the people of the United States. People have to remember our national origins. The people who actually made it to this country were hearty people who could survive a really long boat ride. The original settlers of this country were determined people, people who wanted to achieve a new form of life. Many of these people had to escape their native lands because their new ways of thinking were not accepted by the rest of the world. It is still like this today. Americans have a different set of beliefs. We cannot force those beliefs on the rest of the world. The meaning of tolerance in this world has become skewed and corrupted. Too many people take the word to be a synonym of acceptance. In reality, (yes, reality), it means to respect. Obama wants world peace? Try some real tolerance, a tolerance where the American government is not trying to make another nation accept the ways and ideals of the United States. The only way to achieve peace is to learn some respect.
Anyway, that was just an update on what was happening right now in the country. What I really went online to look up was some information on that proposed driving tax to add onto the gas tax that has already been imposed on the citizens of this nation. As a new driver, voter, and tax payer, (I filed my very own income tax report on Turbo Tax), I am appalled, even “creeped-out”. In my sophomore year of high school, I read 1984 by George Orwell. Anyone who has read that book cannot forget the omniscient and omnipresent character, Big Brother. According to CNN reports yesterday, the proposed plan is potentially a privacy violation. The question is “How will the government monitor how many miles one drives?” Some believe that putting a GPS in a car that can be monitored by the government is the way to achieve this goal. I have but one statement that can be understood only by those who have read 1984……. 2+2=5.
Well it is 10 p.m. as I slowly but surely finish this entry. Hopefully I will get to post again before the end of the world on Saturday, (she says sarcastically). On Sunday I will be posting the Judgment Day, (according to Harold Camping), bumper sticker on my blog, so watch out!!!!!
That is all for tonight. I bid you farewell for now. Keep ticking and stay informed!
Check out the sites that I used:
Okay, so I had a really long thing posted, but I didn't verify it before I posted! So now I forget what I was saying, but I am going to try my hardest to remember. I don't believe that Obama's statement was completely uncalled for. First, the US helped to create the Israeli state in the first place. So, in effect, we should have stopped the fighting then and there, and attempted to make negotiations between Israel and Palestine. So, it is a little bit our fault that this fighting exists, so it is our duty to end what we started, along with the UK, who really seem to be doing nothing to end the fighting. Second, Israel is our ally. And it is in the best interest of both of us to protect Israel, for don't forget, that Israel is doing their fair share of the fighting too. So by going in, and holding meetings on behalf of our allies and attempting to resolve their borders, it is in the best interest of all of the countries, especially Israel. And, as you can see in my blog, I take Obama's idea about the border to just be a starting point, at place for the talks to start. It also finally brings the attention back to the fighting in Israel/Palestine. Plus, if calling for the 1967 borders is so ridiculous, who said Israel has to listen to us? Even though we are their allies, we can't really force them to listen to us. So, well, I kind of forgot everything else I wrote, but, I don't believe Obama's statement is completely uncalled for. Even though peace talks may be unlikely, at least it brings attention back to this conflict, and hopefully something can come of that, in an effort to end the fighting.
ReplyDeleteOk, so now you have to hear me out on what I am saying. Of course peace talks are unlikely, of course both the Israelis and Palestinians are both at fault for the fighting that is going on…I’m not trying to negate that. The point that I was trying to get across was the fact that Obama kind of destroyed his reputation. He can say whatever he wants, and he can push for whatever he wants. He’s the president. That does not mean that it is actually going to happen. Let’s step away from the supposed focal point of his speech and look at how this has affected the people of the US. Obama thought that this was the best moment in time to give this speech because of the spike in his ratings after the death of Bin Laden. However, we have to think about what really runs politics in this country…money. Just follow the money trail. There are lots of Jewish donors and organizations that support (possibly supported) Obama. That money is bound to disappear. What I was trying to say (in my slightly deluded, sleep-deprived state) was that Obama may have wanted to rethink his choice of words. What he was proposing was a plan that would essentially hack off part of Isreal. Some people did not respond well to that. I can also say for a fact that there a chunk of the Christian voting base that is in full support of Israel being a nation and keeping its borders. There are verses in the Bible like Zachariah 2:8 that states, “For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” In this passage God is talking about his people Israel and casting out a warning to the rest of the world. This warning clearly states that those who mess with Israel mess with “the apple” of God’s eye. (Here’s a site that lists a bunch of things that are along the lines of this… http://www.jesusplusnothing.com/questions/protectIsrael.htm). Anyway, all I had been trying to say was that Obama should have chosen his words more carefully.
ReplyDeleteok seems like you guys talked about most of the stuff in the post. so ill try and hightlight a different thing. the boarders they are calling for have already caused a war to break out. i want to know what will happen if this idea if fighting breaks out again? are we going to penalize by less land or enter as peace watchers until the idea is accepted
ReplyDeletealso roie i cant get on to ur blog it keeps shooting me off what is the address again
It's whataboutpolitics.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI guess he could have chosen his words better, but I still think what he said was pretty clear. And I don't think his supporters should take that as him giving up on Israel at all, since he is trying to solve the problem. And it is just ridiculous for people to detract their support and money because he is trying to solve the problem. I understand that most Americans are for Israel, so they would want the solution in which Israel gets the most land, but given the situation, it is just not going to happen. So, I believe Obama's solution was a logical suggestion, and just a suggestion.
I believe that if this is done correctly, and if it is done how it is suggested, the US could provide support as peace keepers. And it is really the people of the two nations who need to be kept under control. And if everything is done peacefully, and the people are paid special attention too, so that they can stop fighting, then there should be done fighting if it is a peaceful transition. But the key to having a peaceful transition is having one that the people support and understand, which will be the hard part.
Sorry, whataboutpolicy.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLook, I know it’s crazy to think that people would detract support of Obama after his speech, but there are crazy people out there. I also fully understand that this is his solution to a problem, but there are some that do not believe that this is the best solution to the problem. So we’ve taken a look at what the voters in the US think, but we also have to remember what the foreign dignitaries thought of Obama’s proposal. The Israeli Prime Minister, Bebe Netanyahu, saw any land concessions as an extreme detriment to the Israeli people. Also, the Arab Nations don’t even accept the Israel as a nation. There are still maps in existence that have Palestine in the place of Israel. (I found a picture of one of them--------------- http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/94461 ). There are just cultural differences that we as the American people don’t understand. Fighting has existed between these peoples for thousands of years. We cannot impose our ideas on a people are who are reluctant to hear them. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Only if someone is willing to listen. We cannot call this ignorance, and if we do, then we are being ignorant of another nation’s belief system. Another thing, even though we see things differently than the Muslims because our theologies are from are two different paradigms, America was founded on Judeo-Christian principals which is why the majority of Americans have more of an affinity for Israel.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait this has nothing to do with politics...was anybody out there raptured?
